The ornament that forms the basis of the Hetman Collection – Replica 4 originates from a historical textile artifact dating from the 17th–18th centuries, a period marked by the flourishing culture of the Hetmanate. During this time, the Ukrainian elite developed its own artistic language, combining local traditions with influences from European Baroque and Eastern decorative motifs.

Textiles of that era were characterized by complex vegetal compositions with flowing stems, stylized flowers, and decorative fruits. Such ornaments symbolized life, fertility, prosperity, and the continuity of family lineage. They were often used in ceremonial textiles, interior fabrics, church coverings, and festive household items.

A distinctive feature of these ornaments is their painterly composition: plant branches seem to unfold in space, creating a sense of movement and natural growth. The flowers have a fantastical character — rather than depicting real plants, they represent a decorative interpretation of nature, which was typical of the Baroque artistic tradition.

The color palette combines rich shades of red, blue, gold, and green. Such combinations symbolized solemnity, strength, and beauty, while also emphasizing the prestige of the objects on which these ornaments appeared.

Textiles featuring similar motifs were part of the cultural environment of the Ukrainian nobility, Cossack elite, and clergy. They adorned ceremonial tables, church interiors, and private residences.

Today, this ornament is preserved as a museum artifact in the collections of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine.
